Our Namesake

Charles Dickens (1812–1870) was a celebrated English novelist and social critic. He rose to fame with The Pickwick Papers and went on to write iconic works like Oliver Twist, A Christmas Carol, David Copperfield, and Great Expectations. Known for his vivid characters and deep concern for social justice, Dickens used storytelling to highlight the struggles of the poor during the Victorian era. His work remains influential and widely read around the world. So why name a liquor store after him? Well, Dickens had a known appreciation for the social rituals of taverns and fine drinks. In fact, pubs and public houses appear frequently in his novels, often as key meeting places where friendships were formed, secrets were shared, and adventures began. He once wrote:

“Champagne is one of the elegant extras in life.”
